Project: Research project

Description

Nondestructive measurement of mechanical properties like hardness or tensile strength, as well as residual stresses, has recently become possible by improvements in the field of measurement engineering.
These quantities are derived from the materials micromagnetic behaviour, which is measured with a sensor connected to a portable device. The desired quantity is then obtained by employing statistical methods or neural networks.
The current project deals with the online-measurement of hardness and residual stresses in rails and tensile strength of wires. Further applications involve classification of material's properties and measurement of residual stresses in welded components.
