Organisation profile

Profile Information

* Investigations of fast chemical reactions, especially electron and proton transfer reactions, in solution via EPR techniques, photo- and chemistry (ENDOR/TRIPLE, CIDEP, MARY, etc.). * Photochemical determination of fluorescence life times (esp. by means of semiconductor light sources) as well as static and time resolved electrochemical methods. Kinetic results are interpreted mainly via Marcus' theory. * Solid state spectroscopic and magnetochemical investigations of complex coordination compounds with applications to laser and light technology. * Quantum chemical molecular calculations are used to study biologically important polyfunctional molecules (e.g. model peptides) and radical ions. * X-ray diffraction methods are employed to determine crystal structures; powder diffraction techniques allow the investigation of phase transitions and temperature dependencies at high and low temperatures. Short Description: Teaching: Basic and advanced education in physical and theoretical chemistry with special emphasis on practical and technical applications. Research topics at the institute are kinetics, spectroscopy and structural chemistry in a broad sense.
