Profile Information

The scientific work of the institute is basically carried out within the frame of several research groups. Special emphasis is given to a mutual cooperation between these groups which permits for an efficient utilization of a wide variety of resources without compromising the various interests and neccessities of the diverse research areas. The main focus of the research work is directed towards the development of instrumentation and methodology for inorganic as well as organic trace analysis. The research areas of interests include e.g. - development of microwave assisted sample preparation by means of automated batch and flow systems. - element preconcentration and matrix separation with flow injection techniques. - atomic absorption and plasma emission spectrometry. - ICP mass-spectrometry. - speciation. - comparative studies of sample extraction procedures including microwave-, pressure and temperature assisted and headspace techniques. - development of chromatographic and spectroscopic methods for the analysis of organic compounds. - derivatization techniques with chromatography. Short Description: Due to the dedication of the institute, research is carried out with special emphasis to develop innovative approaches for chemical analytical work. Thus concepts for inorganic and organic trace analysis especially directed towards construction of novel instrumentation and method development are considered as main issues for the actual research areas.
