Organisation profile

Profile Information

The Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Geodesy is an important centre of research and teaching of various branches of science and their applications. The faculty comprises 13 institutes with main focuses in the fields of discrete mathematics, optimisation, computational mathematics and algorithms, geometry, stochastics and financial mathematics, analysis and mathematical modelling, computational and theoretical physics with focus on correlated systems, solid- state physics and nanostructures, laser spectroscopy and dynamics of atoms and clusters, material physics, electron-microscopy and nanoanalytics as well as geodesy with special regard to satellite navigation and geoinformatics. Institutes of the faculty participate in numerous large national and international projects that are funded by the Austrian Science Fund “FWF”, the Austrian Industrial Research Promotion Fund “FFF”, the EU or within the framework of CD-laboratories. The faculty is equally interested in the creation of new knowledge and applied research, as well as the education of top-experts for industry, economy and science. A part of the study programs of the faculty is offered as joint studies together with the Graz University within the framework of the Graz NAWI cooperation.
