Abstract
For individual examples of single panels the plate buckling verification based on EN 1993-1-5 gives significant differences compared to DIN 18800-3. These unexpected differences – based on the traditional concept of the reduced stress method – lead to a comprehensive parameter study by the authors. For different geometries of panels, plate slenderness and combination of stresses (σx, σx τ, σx σz) the different results of both codes are presented and compared to a realistic nonlinear FEM-analyses. In addition the procedure for plate buckling verification based on EN 1993-1-5 is presented in detail and compared to DIN 18800-3, as well as to nonlinear FEM-analyses.
