Description

Efficient hydrogen supply can be achieved by the decentralized and demand-oriented production and purification process based on chemical looping.
The Reformer Steam Iron Cycle (RESC) is upgrading renewables into a superior energy carrier. The process offers a high efficiency for hydrogen generation exceeding 75% (LHV) from hydrocarbon feedstocks.
Two prototype designs with a fixed-bed steam reformer and chemical looping section were investigated. A total of 18 kg iron oxide Fe2O3 dry mixed with aluminum oxide Al2O3 as additive (20%) was used as reactive material. Single-pellet and fixed-bed thermogravimetric analysis were applied for lifecycle testing of the oxygen carrier material.
