Abstract

The introduction of concentrated transversal loads without stiffeners into webs of hot-rolled or welded beams and girders leads to economic solutions. Practical, simple design checks for this detail solution were thus included in national standards (e.g. DIN 18800), but can no longer be found directly in the Eurocode. In this paper the individual rules for trans-verse load introduction, found in EN 1993-1-8 and EN 1993-1-5, are compared and discussed. Finally, a design recommendation is presented, which is consistent with the different rules given in the Eurocode and which considers all the occurring main effects (buckling of the web, accompanying shear and bending).
