The versatile environmental scanning electron microscope: an in situ lab for science and industry

Research output: Contribution to conferenceAbstract

Abstract

Various processes in nature are determined or accompanied by complex interactions of materials withtheir environment. This can be the interaction of surfaces with liquids, their behavior under mechanicalstress or the basic nature of different micro-structures of specimens. Subsequent investigations of suchinteractions are sometimes insufficient to fully understand the mechanisms during such processes. Therefore, in situ investigations can be performed to get a deeper insight into microscopic propertiescorrelated to macroscopic behaviors of specimens during alteration. In the presented poster, we wantto demonstrate the versatility of an environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM) with variousin situ stages for different applications.
