Abstract
The aim of this article is to describe a process for geocoding news articles. Names of geographical places which are mentioned in these articles get weighted by their place class and geographical and topological relations among themselves are considered. The result of this process represents one single point on earth which fits to the news article best. The process uses OpenStreetMap as base data and queries content by the Overpass-API. Furthermore topological relations are computed on a geometrical data set which is provided by gadm.org.
