Abstract

Static analysis with 3D building models considering the time-dependent deformations in vertical members – Effects of different modelling types on the vertical load distribution. The static analysis of the load flow in structures by means of 3D building models is widely used in practice – but not without controversy. Usually, linear elastic analysis models are created, although they could show significantly different results compared to a conventional analysis using extracted 2D submodels. These differences were discussed in a previous article by the authors. The present article follows on from this and now deals with the influence of the time-dependent deformation behaviour of concrete in the vertical elements on the calculation results of 3D building models. Of course, the time-dependent deformation behaviour of concrete occurs also in the horizontal elements and affects the calculation results additionally. However, these effects were conceivably excluded and will be addressed in future publications of the authors. The investigations are carried out on the 15-storey representative reinforced concrete high-rise building. This building was already the basis of the linear elastic investigations in the previous article. In detail, the analysis model is now extended using time-discrete material models, and reinforcement is added in order to represent the effects of the “internal” restraint. Overall, the time-dependent deformation behaviour of concrete causes significant differences in the force distribution compared to a linear elastic analysis. Due to the high complexity of these time-discrete analyses, an engineering approach for practical application was developed and tested for its suitability.
