Abstract

Automated conductive charging systems for electric vehicles are a new emerging topic in the automotive industry. In future, the charging process will be performed in an automated fashion using advanced functions of autonomous vehicles. This opportunity in combination with fast charging technologies provides comfortable and short charging processes. The present paper investigates sensor technologies for an autonomous conductive charging system for electric and hybrid vehicles and offers decisions for cost efficient infrastructure solutions. Different sensor technologies are compared with each other with respect to requirements such as vehicle cognition and classification, vehicle position detection, robustness under different weather conditions as well as cost.
