Abstract
Smartphones have evolved to be ubiquitous devices within our society during the last few years, which is why it is convenient to use their sensors directly for computing positions of the pedestrian carrying the smartphone. Outdoors, positioning based on satellite radio signals is commonly used today. However,
no standardized system exists for indoors. Therefore, mulitple approaches have been discussed recently, e.g. pedestrian dead reckoning, most of them relying on personal parameters of the pedestrian using the smartphone for positioning. However, these personal parameters require calibration, which is potentially
time consuming when executed manually. This paper presents the work in progress regarding semi-automated calibration of these pedestrian dead reckoning parameters using a foot-mounted inertial measurement unit for step detection as ground truth.
