Abstract

The growing application of Riblets in various industries, mainly aviation and wind turbines, increase the need to study the effects of Riblet wear and defects during operation. Riblets are V-shaped grooves which reduce the drag of a body in a turbulent flow up to 8%. Occurring defects have a negative impact on the performance of the Riblets. Thus, the ability to reduce drag is reduced. The present work studies scratch defects of Riblets numerically and experimentally considering regular and random defect distributions on Riblet surfaces.
