Abstract

A numerical model for taking into account the effect of blasting in the analysis of tunnels in rock is presented. The propagation of the detonation wave is assumed according to an exponential function based on the analytical model derived by C.T. Aimone. This function is implemented into the computer code as load-time function. The propagation of the pressure wave is calculated employing a dynamic finite element analysis. Comparison to field measurements show a reasonable agreement. Only homogeneous rock masses have been investigated so far but extension to jointed rock masses should be possible without major difficulties. -from Computers & Geotechnics
