Abstract
With the miniaturization of cutting processes the relative influence of not similarly scaleable quantities on the process results increases. This has consequences on the applicability of cutting force models known from conventional cutting. By means of similarity mechanics and on the basis of finite element simulations important process parameters are identified. An equation for the prediction of specific cutting forces in micro cutting is developed. Results deduced from the equation with parameters fitted to the simulations are compared to experimental results.
