Abstract
The article describes the methodical development of a sorting system for the shipment type polybag. The need for this arises from challenges such as higher energy efficiency with a simultaneous increase in performance, but above all from the sharp increase in the proportion of items with physical properties that have not yet been adequately described - also known as polybags. State-of-theart systems are currently only able to do justice to these extraordinary challenges to a limited extent. The article
shows various models for simulating the physical behavior of polybags, such as limp behavior using multi-body simulation or flow simulations and integrates these directly into the development process. The design process focuses on a virtual development approach (CAE) through various methods, with subsequent validation of the approaches on a functional prototype. This results in the concept study of the new sorting system especially for polybags
