Abstract

Lattice plane specific surface reactions of chromium with hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen have been studied with the field ion microscope at 21 and 78 K with neon as imaging gas. The field desorption spectra show mainly Cr**2** plus at the applied field strengths, but also complex ions of chromium with the applied gases preferentially as double-charged ions.
