Abstract
The Hydropower Plant Birecik (Turkey) is located on the Euphrates River approximately 80 km downstream of the Ataturk dam. The dam structure is a concrete gravity dam with left and right bank fill sections. First studies started already in the early 70's and were finalized with the geotechnical investigations in 1996. Important findings are clayey intercalations within the bedding planes of the foundation. The impact on the stability of the Birecik concrete dam structures is described.
