Abstract

Ice accretion is a common event in cold climate regions. Systems operating in such an environment can be adversely affected by ice coverage e.g. the efficiency of a wind turbine is reduced. To induce appropriate countermeasures reliable ice detection systems are required. Measurements around the freezing mark are particularly challenging due the unknown state of matter of water. In this paper we present analysis of a field sensor. The differentiation between an ice and water covered sensor is shown by measurements of time varying sensor conditions.
