Abstract

Pool-type fish ladders can basically be differentiated into slot passes with uniform bottom slope and pool & weirs fish passes constructed by ramping at the transition, based on their characteristics. In this context, the vertical-slot slot pass and the natural pool & weir fish pass are considered as proved construction types. In the course of the implementation of the Water Framework Directive, numerous pool & weir fish passes were constructed with technical, concreted weirs, in contrast to the natural variant, which is characterized by the design of the weir with armour stones. Since technical pool & weir fish passes offer constructional and economic advantages compared to the natural variant as well as an exact dimensioning and construction possibility compared to the natural pool & weir fish pass, and are therefore increasingly used, this article is dedicated to the hydraulic and biotic analysis of this variant
