Abstract

Up to now Denil fishways have been considered as being restrictive to the passage of bottom-dwelling fish which are poor swimmers. To realise the modified Denil fishway, the original conception of a Denil fishway has mainly been modified by placing bed substrate in the fishway. By several laboratory and field tests the system could be hydraulically optimised. In the course of monitorings in the barbel and trout region the passage of a wide range of species and size classes has been recorded and also the passage of bottom-dwelling small fish could be proved.
