Abstract

For the fatigue verification or determination of the re-maining fatigue life of steel highway bridges, based on the Euroco-de, in general the simple fatigue load model ELM3, consisting of one vehicle only, is used and the effects of the complex traffic be-haviour are considered by damage equivalence factors l. However, the application is limited to span length and length of the influence lines L > 10 m.In this paper appropriate damage equivalence factors l are presen-ted for orthotropic steels decks of highway bridges. Based on com-prehensive calculations on representative orthotropic bridge decks with the complex fatigue load model ELM4, consisting of five vehi-cle types, suitable damage equivalence factors l for the simple fati-gue load model ELM3 are developed. They are focused on relevant details for fatigue verification
