Abstract

The syntheses, structural characterization and magnetic behaviour of three new copper(II) complexes derived from 3-phosphonopropionic acid with formulae [Cu2(HO3PCH2CH2CO2)2(bpy)2(H2O)2] (1), [Cu(HO3PCH2CH2CO2)(Me2phen)]n (2) and [Cu{(py)2C(OH)2}](HO3PCH2CH2CO2H)2 (3) are reported (H2O3PCH2CH2CO2H = 3-phosphonopropionic acid, bpy = 2,2′-bipyridyl, Me2phen = 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline, (py)2C(OH)2 = bis(2-pyridyl)methanediol). 1 is a dinuclear compound with hydrogen-3-phosphonopropionate(2-) bridging ligands, 2 is a ladder type monodimensional compound with the same HO3PCH2CH2CO2(2-) bridging ligand and 3 is a mononuclear compound with isolated HO3PCH2CH2CO2H(1-) anions. The magnetic properties of the 1D compound are reported.
