Abstract

The huge disparity of scales in low Mach number aeroacoustics yields the possibility of applying well suited hybrid simulation models using different meshes for flow and acoustics.
Since these two meshes may be quite different, the fundamental requirement in hybrid computational aeroacoustics (CAA) is an accurate data transfer from the flow to the acoustic grid in order to minimize interpolation errors.
In this paper, we investigate the accuracy of a standard conservative interpolation scheme compared to the more sophisticated cut-volume cell by applying the schemes to aeroacoustic computation of an axial fan. Finally, the results of the acoustics simulations are compared to measurements.
