Abstract

For the last 20 years, it has been common practice to design glass constructions making use of glass fins and load-bearing glass panels instead of using a separate load bearing structure. The unparal-leled leaps that have been made in glass construction technology have been helped along by the constant developments in the fabrication and assembly methods as well as the calculation and failure prediction processes. The newly built facade, with its ambitious geometry is an example of the recent developments. It is currently one of the largest load bearing glass structures in the world. This report explains the calculation and construction of the glass facade as well as issues of fabrication and assembly.
