Abstract

Advanced numerical tools with user friendly interfaces are available for structural analyses. Such numerical analyses require a solid theoretical background of the applicability of methods to be used. On the other hand, the results gained need careful interpretation with respect to the underlying assumptions and their practical relevance. The workshop will provide an excellent opportunity for engineers, scientists and operators to present and exchange experiences in the design, performance, and monitoring of dams. The numerical problem proposed for the Theme C consists of estimating the consequences of failure of a dam near populated areas with complex demographics, infrastructure and economic activity. Based on the basic assumptions and results gained the contributors will be encouraged to intensify and focus their effort to achieve results with higher profound physical justification and explain the differences.
