Abstract
A project under the name “Belastung von Hochleistungsweichen” (Load on highperformance turn outs) has been carried out. Its target was the introduction of a consistent design process and the development of a stationary load measuring method for turnouts to provide evidence of the structural durability of components. Voluminous models and simulations were necessary and could be
carried out and validated with a high level of precision. A turnout was equipped with numerous sensors collecting data in a field test lasting several years which supplied an extensive set of data as a basis to establish all the needed load spectra. An intensive analysis of the measured signals allowed to clarify some hitherto unknown phenomena in the interaction between rolling stock and
turnout.
