Adaptive Assembly Concepts for Low Volume Production Based on Two Case Studies

Abstract

Nowadays, due to the ongoing electrification of mobility and mass customization of products, the variances in these products have increased. Hence, achieving high quality, high variety, and small batch size production can be quite expensive. Thus, how can the vehicle production be accomplished with high quality, low costs, and high adaptability? What are the techniques that are involved in achieving this calibre? And finally, how can one implement it?
The focus of this research lies in high adaptive technologies in the assembly
along with qualitative aspects. In this thesis, the adaptive concepts are derived from various concept areas. Then, an outline for implementing these set of adaptive technologies into an assembly line is drawn. This has been analysed with the help of two case studies. Finally, an evaluation methodology is described for assessing the
increase in level of automation and decrease in overall errors.
