Innovation rates in aerial photogrammetry accelerated during recent decennia. This is being driven by progress in computing, progress in digital imaging and progress in Internet-inspired applications. We describe these innovations and their effect on the separate discipline of photogrammetry. In this, all conceivable aspects have undergone changes. This addresses academic institutions, the industry, the devices, the data services, the literature, the conferences, the money flows and the Internet-inspired applications. Since the innovations are being driven by computing and sensing, their main forces are in computer science. This requires that the field of photogrammetry revisit its position in a changed environment. We report on photogrammetry projects that use 16 Terabytes of aerial or terrestrial source data to develop point clouds with 100 billion 3D coordinate triplets in a city like Graz. And we develop a sense of a future in which photogrammetry can rely on imagery from everyday driving cars, from the Internet, from unmanned aerial devices, meeting new Internet-driven applications on smart phones. Computing algorithms will get developed that use all the diverse information sources of our environment in a World coordinate system to apply a 3D World model. Navigation and mapping merge into a new paradigm for the creation and application of geo-information.
