Abstract
The issues of sustainability, ecology and resource conservation are indispensable in all areas of life, starting with food, mobility, up to housing and living. Due to the intensive use of materials, the construction sector is significantly responsible for the consumption of natural resources. More than 95% of multi-storey residential buildings are currently pre-dominantly constructed with conventional mineral construction materials with only a small proportion of ecological building materials. Additionally the increasing demands for a resi-dential healthy living atmosphere, demonstrates the great potential for the use of environ-mentally friendly building materials in multi-storey residential buildings.
This paper illustrates barriers and challenges, but also states possibilities and opportunities in the decision-making of ecological building processes. Therefore, an empirical expert survey has been conducted, targeting the basics of decision-making in the area of plan-ning with ecological building materials. In addition, their assessment of their clients ratings collected, analysed and interpreted in relation to a choice of ecological building materials.
The results of this research underline the importance of the intensified greening of multi-storey residential buildings as a major contribution to climate protection.
