Research is targeted towards the development of a reloadable hydrogen storage system, operating at ambient temperature and pressure and taking advantage of the properties of ionic liquids. With adequate auxiliary equipment, this storage system could be deployed as a hydrogen storage system for automotive systems. The high energy density that can be
achieved with the proposed system (abt. 1/3 of conventional hydrocarbon fuels) allows the implementation of compact automotive hydrogen storage systems at ambient pressure and
temperature, not possible with any other technology.
