Project Details

Description

This research project analyses the potentials of specific vertical farming typologies regarding energetic synergy potentials within the urban environment. The integration of the agricultural production seems reasonable in the context of the actual per-capita land use. The figures for land use per capita in Austria are as following: 45m living, 10m for office space and 5m for industry. By far the greatest amount of land use accounts for food production: 2300m2 per capita per annum. Different utilization periods of urban programmes and functions including vertical farming open a new possibilities for basic research aiming to increase the overall energy efficiency of cities.
