The floating water bridge

Project: Research area

Project Details

Description

When high voltage is applied to distilled water filled into two glass beakers which are in contact, a stable water connection forms spontaneously, giving the impression of a floating water bridge. In this research area a detailed experimental analysis of this phenomenon is performed in cooperation between three institutes at Graz University of Technology. This research is governed by a research contract between Graz University of Technology and Wetsus, Wetsus - Center of Excellence for Sustainable Water Technology, Agora 1, 8900 CC Leeuwarden, The Netherlands. Coordinator of this research is Dr. Elmar C. Fuchs, Wetsus, NL.
