Project Details
Description
The conducted work will focus on the chemistry of homo- as well as heteronuclear metalloid clusters RxSnm and RxSnmEn (E = Ge, Sb, Bi). Although a number of synthetic approaches were conducted successfully in the past, the aim of this proposal is to develop a novel, more versatile, synthetic approach towards clusters and cages. This synthetic approach is based on tin/tin - and tin/element –bond formation from organotin di- and –trihydrides R4-nSnHn (n = 2,3) and low oxidation state di- or triamides of groups 14 and 15 E(NR2)n (n = 2, E = Ge, Sn; n = 3, E = Sb, Bi) via the elimination of readily removable H-NR2. The isolated compounds will be characterized by state-of-art analytical methods, including X-ray crystallography, heteronuclear NMR, IR-, UV-Vis- and Luminescence spectroscopy. Their reactions towards (small) reactive molecules such as H2, P4, As4, RSiH3, NH3, BH3 etc. will be investigated.
