Optimization of OSB Production Process and Building Elements

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

The main tasks of the project were to improve the stiffness and strength of Eurostrand OSB, as well its swelling and shrinking properties. Therefor changes in the production process were undertaken. With the help of gluing technologies, hollow box elements were produced using only optimised OSB or having a solid timber web. Several tests on those large units for e.g. ceilings or roof structures yielded information about the load carrying potential in bending and shearing. To check serviceability of glued OSB-elements, fundamental frequency was measured and creep effects caused by long term loading were studied in a climate chamber. Fire tests to study the burning behaviour were carried out on medium-size elements in different assemblies and various surface coatings.
