Description

Soils contaminated with mineral oil hydrocarbons can be cleaned by microbiological remediation techniques. The degradation of a hydrocarbon mixture of refined oil requires the combined activities of several different microbial populations. Adaptation of microbial communities to hydrocarbons was enriched from oil contaminated soil, suspended in a mineral salt medium with the final pH of 7.5. The mixed population is characterized by the immobilization of the microbial cells by adhesion at the soil particles.
The process flow with the technical equipment for the aerobic biodegradation of mineral oil hydrocarbons operates according to a process scheme that includes the processing stages of pre-treatment, soil separation unit for the wet liberation and sizing with a completely closed waste water circuit. For wet liberation and sizing, the soil was transferred into the separation unit and mixed with water without addition of chemical reagents. The mechanical separation aims at a dispersion of agglomerates to release and to suspend pollutant particles. As the result of the wet treatment and the separating processes, the suspension of the fine soil with a particle size fraction of £ 500 µm and a share of £ 30% is discharged from gravel and transferred with a slurry pump into the bioreactor.
