MoVE The NuVe - Efficiency, Emission and Thermomanagement Concepts for Urban Traffic Heavy Duty Engines

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

Today’s heavy duty diesel engine development is driven by the trade-off between the customer demanded fuel economy – i.e. CO2 Emissions - and statutory pollutant emissions reduction, mostly NOx. Present project shall assess strategies to overcome this trade-off by means of simulation with special respect to critical urban load cycles. The investigations divide into fuel economy improvement, thermal management and incylinder NOx reduction. Intended strategies comprise, amongst others, extended expansion, Miller Cycle and water injection. Special attention is paid to a holistic approach and to transient operation.
