Project Details
Description
Compatible Solutes (CS) have the potential to protect cells, enzymes and bioactive compounds. Glucosylglycerol (GG) is known as an efficient CS. The substance, which is a well-known CS in cyanobacteria, is also produced by the plant-associated bacterium Stenotrophomonas rhizophila. Furthermore, it was shown that GG was excreted in high amounts during the early stationary phase. Using molecular tools a MFS-type exporter was found, which is a potential candidate for the selective export of GG. This GG-export system will be characterized by biochemical and molecular methods.
