Project Details

Description

Precipitates in Al-alloys are responsible for the good hardenability of these alloys. However, there are a number of different types of precipitates with different properties. The aim of this project is to classify the various precipitate types in series 1000 to 8000 alloys from literature. Based on these data, modelling and simulation using the thermo-kinetic software 'MatCalc', which is developed at this Institute, will be performed and experiment and simulation will be compared. Additionally, DSC measurments of the specific heat capacity will complement the data and it will be concluded to which extent the numerical simulations can give reliable predictions of thermo-physical properties as well as precipitation kinetics in these materials.
