Mass Transfer

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

The main objectives of this work area are studies of mass transfer in the field of disperse multiphase flows, such as fuel injection and spray drying. A close cooperation with Division "Flow Measuring Techniques and Multiphase Flow" is therefore established. The group has specific experience with experimental mass transfer investigations in disperse systems, carried out with single, acoustically levitated particles. Accompanying computations simulate the rates of mass transfer, e.g. for all components of multi-component mixtures such as liquid fuels and mixtures of organic solvents as used in the chemical or pharmaceutical industry. The physico-chemical knowledge available in the group allows for a correct simulation of the processes looked at, which forms the basis of a realistic simulation of full production processes like drying of solutions and suspensions.
