Description

The optimization of injection nozzles and injection valves is of particular importance in order to reach further targets concerning emissions, fuel consumption and performance and is supported by the usage of powerful simulation tools. The prediction quality of the simulation depends considerably on the accuracy of the calibration of the spray models. In the framework of this project specific test were carried out using a combined flow-rate-spray-momentum measuring system in order to obtain exact information regarding CD- and CCN-numbers of the injection nozzles in use. The test equipment allows back pressures of 0 to 200 bar and stationary rail pressures of 5 to 1800 bar (at a maximum flow rate of 2 litres per minute). Furthermore, a hydraulic model was developed to determine the spray discharge velocity of the nozzle.
