Green Ice 2025 - Speed-controlled high-speed refrigeration compressor for high-efficiency applications

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

The aim of the project is to develop a new, highly modern variable-speed compressor platform, which will serve as input for the subsequent industrialisation phase. The aim is to regain technological market leadership in the field of household compressors and to secure the production and development site in Fürstenfeld.
Since the cooling capacity of variable-speed compressors can be increased by increasing the compressor speed, there is more freedom in terms of size and increased efficiency. The so-called Coefficient of Performance (COP) is defined by the ratio of the usable cooling capacity Q0 to the electrical drive power Pel. The goal of this project is to improve the COP from 1.93 to 2.35 (according to ASHRAE test cycle at an evaporating temperature of -23.3°C and a condensing temperature of +55°C). Another goal is to keep the noise emissions low enough over the entire speed range so that the end user either does not consciously perceive the noise, or at least does not perceive it as annoying. For this purpose, 32dB(A) at -25°C/40°C and 1500rpm, and 39dB(A) at -25°C/55°C and 6000rpm were defined as target values for the maximum noise emissions.
