Giant II - GIC Impact on Assets and Network Infrastructure

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

Transformer neutral currents occur in high-voltage systems, especially in low-impedance earthed networks in normal operation. The DC components or very low-frequency components in the neutral point current can drive the magnetic circuit of the transformer into saturation to a certain degree and impair the operating behaviour (losses, noise emission...). In this project, basic analysis and countermeasures are to be scientifically investigated and analysed both in the high-voltage grid and in transformers for starpoint direct currents in high-voltage systems. Subsequently, new findings for the operation of grids are to be derived from this.
