The project "Overcoming Mental Fixation by Switching the Internal Spotlight" (OMFix) is funded by the Austrian Science Fund (P 27709-G22). The focus is on the interplay between search processes in human memory and executive processing to examine a central characteristic of creative achievements, namely overcoming mental fixation to combine previously dissociated thoughts. After testing the applicability of stochastic models of memory search in the lab, we make use of these models in field studies to explore and support peoples’ capability of creatively searching the World Wide Web.
