Quantum cryptography is the only system for key distribution that can provably not be tampered by an eavesdropper without being noticed. While its theoretical basis is already reasonably well understood, commercial application is hampered by the lack of ready-to-use integrated encryption systems.
Therefore we are targeting at a high performance but scalable security solution embedding quantum cryptography as security enhancing core technology fully integrated as System-on- Chip. It will embed all necessary tasks for QKD and fully manage secure networking in a standalone device via tunnelling private data from trusted zones over public insecure networks. Moreover, this is the first approach world wide to combine know-how from security experts and the quantum cryptography community; hence, the project can be themed as “Security meets Quantum Cryptography”. This ensures a security market oriented development and will lead to a well-balanced system which will be trusted by future customers.
Furthermore it aims at the implementation of a fresh and new design for fast and flexible hardware firewalls with tunnelling capabilities. The result will be a prototype for the first
integrated quantum enabled security system, which can be the precursor of a new class of security solutions in the future.
