Project Details

Description

The combustion of fossil fuels with pure oxygen (Oxyfuel-Process) is one of a multiplicity of technological solutions to reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere through sequestration and storage in appropriate deposits (CCS, Carbon Capture and Storage). The project Friendly Coal deals with the combustion of coal with pure oxygen. The project focuses on two concepts to reduce the high temperatures in the combustion chamber. While the decrease of the temperature with high flue gas recirculation rates is already a common solution, the inversely staged combustion is a new innovative concept. The main objective of the project is to investigate and compare boiler concepts for the combustion of hard coal with pure oxygen in a 300 MWth CO2 free power plant.
