EBW - Dobeneck-Stiftung - Integrity at electron beam welding of copper materials

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

Copper is used in many industry areas because of its high electric conductivity and its excellent heat conductance. High current components, cooling elements and cast canisters are only a few examples for the wide applicability of copper materials. Welding of copper materials is because of its specific characteristics very challenging. Due to the high heat conductance copper detracts a lot of energy from semlting. Therefore welding techniques with hich energy density and a good energy induction in the materials are needed. Furthermore a high welding velocity is necessary in order to minimize heat loss and melting bath. Electron beam welding unites all of these characteristics and therefore it is well suitable for joining this material.
