Description

The project goal is to develop and test the effectiveness of a software prototype to increase efficient driving through an onboard application that provides the driver some kind of feedback based on critical competence indicators. CSS will review literature and existing work to determine appropriate computerizable structures of competencies that contribute to efficient driving. The efficient driving competence structure (EDCS) should allow the mapping of a learning driver into the structure via a set of defined indicators such as vehicle sensors or others (also part of task 1). Based on the EDCS, CSS will develop feedback strategies necessary for a learning driver to acquire the competencies needed to increase his or her driving efficiency. CSS will document the competence structures, mapping to competence indicators, and feedback plans in such a form so that a computer programmer can implement a software prototype including an interface that dynamically detects a driver’s competence state and provides appropriate feedback. CSS will provide test scenarios in the form of descriptions of driver-vehicle-context test situations that trigger the appropriate system behavior and measure the human learning responses and include a listing of the desired responses with reference to the competence structures.
