Dissolution of Gibbsite (Al(OH)3)

    Project: Research project

    Project Details

    Description

Dissolution experiments are carried out to obtain kinetic parameters to model the interaction between natural solids and fluids (interstitial, hydrothermal, soil solutions, and ground water). In the present case the experiments are conducted in batch-reactors (closed system) and mixed-flow-through-reactors (open system) representing the boundary conditions of natural systems. The results show that the dissolution rates depend on complexation within the solution, on temperature, and on pH. Moreover, surface complexation at the solid/liquid interface has to be considered.
