Description

The states of the eastern part of Austria maintain a set of road detectors such as inductive loops and radar sensors to measure traffic volumes and speed for offline evaluation and longterm statistical purposes. For realtime traffic management and traffic information this data is needed in real-time.

Within this study the locations of the existing detectors and potential new ones are analysed to which extend they are needed to model a full picture of the current traffic situation. Therefore candidates for potential locations are placed on high-volume roads and between adjacent traffic zones in order to receive the maximimum additional information on path flows by each additional detector. As a target a priority list of detectors locations is generated identifiying an order in which the detectors should be converted for real-time data transmission.
